Berlin '16

I took a trip out to Berlin to explore the city as I have heard good things about it. We took various tours of the city and learnt a lot about the graffiti, art and history. Here are some images of interesting art I saw in Berlin, the large scale and detail was incredible.

Victor Ash

Astronaut, Krusenberg

This was one of my favourite pieces of graffiti by an artist called Victor Ash. What I like about it is the scale, but what is most fascinating about it is that the piece of graffiti is placed in context as at night a light shines on this piece of art next to a cars sales pitch with flags, the light shines through the flag and onto the astronaut, so at night it looks as if the astronaut is holding a waving flag.

Falling Graffiti Writers and trees. Berlin

Tree house

The Urban Treehouse is a historical gem. Sitting right along the former Berlin Wall, the treehouse was put together by Osman Kalin in 1983 while the Berlin Wall was still standing. The derelict land was suddenly under inspection once the wall fell, and it looked like Kalin's masterpiece was going to be torn down. Protests ensued and the neighboring church, which it turned out owned the land, elected to let him stay. It still stands today, and Kalin is more than happy to let passers by take photos of his inventive home.

1up Crew

The 1up crew are one of the most famous graffiti gangs in Berlin and they are very famous for spraying the trams in Berlin. Someone of the gang will be inside the tram and pulls the emergency cord which gives them exactly three minutes to spray the tram before the police arrive. They are dressed head to toe in black and their face covered so no one knows who they are. All over Berlin there is the 1up logo in various places. The 1up crew- one united power.

They video it all and put it on YouTube, here is just one of the videos:

Studios of interest in Berlin

I didn't contact any studios before going out to Berlin because there wasn't enough time, however I would like to visit the city again as I wanted to stay out there longer, I have been looking at a few studios I could contact including:

I will contact these studios in the near future

Studio Moross- Placement request

I have always admired Studio Moross and recently on their Instagram they have been posting for placements and graphic design jobs. Danny e-mailed studio Moross and they provided me with a more direct e-mail address to the studio manager, in my e-mail to them I needed to include 10 pieces of work I was proud of! Below are screen shots of the PDF I have sent them in hope of a reply. While collating the work I am proud of it has gave me time to reflect on my work, what I would like to improve on and what I want to do more of, I would like to do more publication design and branding this year.

Cheese Society- Merry Christmas Cheesus Christ

Overall the event went really well, it was a great venue to hold the event, some people brought their own cheese, we provided some cheese and cheese was for sale. We made some more sales on the 'cheese on tote' tote bags to make up for costs of the cheese. A great way to start the festive period.
