Person I Admire

As my first PPP task I have been asked to write about a person I admire/ aspire, originally I was thinking of celebrity figures, but then I realised I don't really know much about them as a person. So i decided to do someone from home as I admire him as a designer.

At school/ sixthform we had quite a small art department, and we were constantly shown the years above work from previous projects for inspiration. I particularly liked this persons photography of architecture, this person being an older peer called Olly Sorsby. After A-levels he then went on to study Graphic Design at Birmingham City University, he graduated last year with a first.

I love how clean and fresh his work is and how he has got his own style using different textures, I also love the layout of his website and his simple yet effective logo designs.

Here is just one project that I have picked out from his website its quite recent the rebranding of the universities website for art and design called 'we grow cherries', again I love the cleanness of it.

I find him inspirational as he's from the exactly the same background as me and has got so far with Graphic design, as now after just graduating from university at the age of just 21 he now co owns his own business back at home in Wolverhampton, he seems to have got so far already.

Above is a screen shot of his website called 'adaptable'. This is how the website describes Olly as a designer 'Specialising in brand identity & web design, Olly has an excellent eye for detail. A strong believer that less is more, he is passionate about solving problems through clear & simple design.'

If I was to potentially contact him in the future there are number of questions that I would ask including:

1) Where you initially worried/scared about setting up your own business?
2) Do you enjoy working for yourself?
3) Do you find you able to be more creative with your designs?
4) Did you enjoy your degree and what was your favourite project to work on?
5) Have you got any tips for people doing Graphic Design degree's now?
6) Whats your favourite designer and why?
7) If you could turn back time what would you change?
8) Whats your favourite programme to use to design on?
9) What influences your graphic design?
10) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I would ask these questions to gain an insight of what he found difficult on his journey though uni and setting up a business, and also to see what his future plans are.
